CREATE!

I took the opportunity of an empty house to get loads of stuff done. Granted, it wasn't anything that I SHOULD have done but I did have fun :)

I spent the better part of last night finishing up an invitation order. I spent the first half of today making envelopes for those invitations. Now, I should have put more thought into the size of the invitations because it took me a good hour and lots of trial and error to figure out exactly how I was going to do it. Once I had it all figured out it was smooth sailing.

After that I took a break and made mother's day cards. They were lots of fun.

Then it was time to design thank you cards. I knew the basic shape I wanted and had an idea of what I wanted to do with them but those plans were thrown out of the window. I still want to try the technique out but maybe on a different project. It all worked out in the end and I love how they are coming together.

Will post pictures tomorrow.

I must say it was nice having a quiet house but I did miss snuggles and movies with my little guy. So glad to have him back home.

Stop and Smell the Flowers

I am amazed by the things my 3 year-old says. Mornings are usually pretty hectic, as I imagine all households with little ones are. We were driving in this morning and I usually take a detour and drive through a nice wooded area. That's when he told me to "slow down mom. I look at the pretty trees." I suppose this should be a lesson to all of us to slow down and take time to enjoy the little things. Who knew a little person could be so wise?

I am so blessed to have such a smart and sweet little guy.

I hate storms

A more accurate description would be that I'm absolutely, positively terrified of storms. Terrified to the point that I go into a panic attack. Terrified to the point that I'll have multiple weather radar maps open on my computer along with radar on tv and radar on my phone, just in case any of the others go out with the power. My husband used to make fun of my phobia and has since accepted this fact. He has become Mr. Preparedness himself. (Remind me to post a picture of our panic room/storm shelter sometime).

We knew severe weather was in the cards today. Usually on days like this we put together a bag of basic necessities such as wallets, keys, a change of clothes for all, some toys for the kid, cell phone chargers, etc. After the threat of inclement weather had passed I went to retrieve my cell phone charger.

What did I find in the bottom of my bag?

My camera.

Because he knows how important it is to me. Now that is love. :)

I had to have one!

I liked the birdhouse I made for my mom's mother's day present so much I made one for myself. I used the smaller one and am going to put it on top of my desk at work. It could use a little spring in my office.

I went a little crazy with the Stickles but they are so fun to use and add just a little sparkle.

Other Invitations

I did these a few months ago. It took a little trial and error but I finally got them right.

Another Sample

I also made this card but must have forgotten to take a picture.

Stuff I Made

This is a frame I made for my mom's birthday. It's just a plain wood frame I painted and covered in ribbon. I also took fragments and glued them to pieces of paper, trimmed, and hot glued to the frame. Add a few buttons and some bling and it's done!

I took this picture before I added some dark teal ribbon around the inner part of the frame. Ooops!

Altered Book #2

This is another alterred book I did for myself. It starts off as a simple children's board book. The book is prepped and sanded and paper is measured and cut.

For some reason I can't for the life of me get this picture turned around. I have no idea how it was put on its side, but oh well, you can just turn your head. LOL!

Windy Sunday

It was an awesome day to be outside. A little windy but otherwise a gorgeous day.

The plum trees are in bloom. Can't wait to sink my teeth into one!

Cruising around...

Spiderman didn't want to fly.

This didn't last long. The wind eventually broke the string. I guess poor Spiderman couldn't win against 30 mph winds.

TGIF???

I have 2 sick boys at home and I'm stuck working. That may not be such a bad thing. They can keep their sickness to themselves!

I guess that means I can kick back tonight and enjoy a quiet night at home.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Altered Book #1

This is an altered book I made for my son's daycare teacher when she left for greener pastures. It starts out as a simple child's board book:
After a little sanding and prep work I measured paper and adhered to the pages:

The finished cover:

I have since splurged a little and bought a premium craft light. It was one of the best purchases that I've made. There are a lot of things that I'm going to do differently next time but it was a good learning process.

Fresh air does the body good

We took a nice walk outside last night. Fresh air = tired boy.

My mind is a jumbled mess

So much going on in this brain of mine. Too much to do. Not enough time. Creative ideas spilling out but no time to work. I'm getting the itch again. I feel a "me" day coming on soon.
